Charles Lindbergh Signed Program for a Luncheon…Four Months after his Historic Flight!
DS
A program for a luncheon "Honoring Colonel Charles A. Lindberg hosted by the Citizens of Fort Worth Texas, September 26, 1927". On the cover is a fine-executed portrait of Lindbergh by artist Carl Bohnen, boldly signed by Lindbergh in blue ink. Within is a gilt-edged insert listing the speakers and the delectable menu for the event. Fastened with a knotted gold cord. Measuring 6.75" x 10" (closed). Mounting remains to verso of cover with a tiny bit of loss, small marginal splits from the gold cord at top and bottom of central fold of folder, expected toning and smudging commensurate with age and use, otherwise near fine condition.

In July 1927 and following his history-making flight, Lindbergh was promoted to rank of Colonel in the United States Air Corps Reserve. After his return to the United States, Lindbergh agreed to a three-month tour in the fall of 1927, organized by the Daniel Guggenheim Fund for the Promotion of Aeronautics. While flying the Spirit of St. Louis, he touched down in 48 states and 82 cities, where it is estimated that one out of four Americans had the chance to see him in person (Charles Lindbergh House and Museum, Minnesota Historical Society). Lindbergh appeared in Texas in September, as well as California, Montana and Oregon – among other states!
