Archive of seven items signed by members of Lincoln's Cabinet, consisting of:

1.) Attorney General Edward Bates (1793-1869) Autograph Letter Signed, "Edw. Bates", 1p, on Attorney General's Office letterhead, 5" x 8", Washington, June 26, 1862. Marked "Private", Bates writes to the Honorable Edwards Pierrepont, then a Judge on the New York Supreme Court who would later serve as U.S. Attorney General, regarding the case of Marshall O. Roberts and an "oddly-worded act". Very light wear, in near fine condition.

2.) Postmaster General Montgomery Blair (1813-1883) telegram signed "M. Blair", 1p, 7.75" x 7", Washington, June 12, 1863, to H. Blanton, Esq. of Frankfort, Kentucky. In part: "Where is young Waller, & what offense is he charged with." Flattened folds and creases. Light toning and minor spotting. In very good plus condition.

3.) Interior Secretary Caleb B. Smith (1808-1864) circular signed, "Caleb B. Smith", 1p, on Department of the Interior letterhead measuring 7.75" x 10", November 22, 1862, concerning the Annual Message of the President. Flattened folds and creases, with some minor separation. Discoloration along folds and edges. In very good condition.

4.) War Secretary Edwin M. Stanton (1814-1869) Letter Signed, "Edwin M. Stanton", 1p, on War Department stationery measuring 8" x 9.875", Washington City, April 23, 1864, to U.S. Senator of California, John Conness, regarding a soldier's furlough and promotion. A few puncture holes at top. Flattened folds and creases, with some separation and minor paper loss. Lightly toned with a bit of foxing. Overall, in very good condition.

5.) Navy Secretary Gideon Welles (1802-1878) Letter Signed, "Gideon Welles", 3pp bifolium, 8.25" x 13.75", from the Navy Department, Washington, April 20, 1861, to Commander Thomas T. Craven regarding recruiting for the Navy. In part: "Boys not under 13 or over 18 years of age, may be enlisted to serve until they are 21, with the consent of their parents or guardians." Flattened folds. Minor loss at top edge. Toning and scattered foxing. Text lightly faded, but remains legible. Overall, in very good condition.

6.) Treasury Secretary Salmon P. Chase (1808-1873) Letter Signed, "SP Chase", 1p, 8" x 10", Treasury Department, August 9,1862, to Charles Almy, Collector of Fall River, Massachusetts regarding his bond duties: "You are also in error, in supposing, a bond, given for duties, must be approved by me. The responsibility of approval rests upon the Collector..." Flattened folds. Pin holes along left margin. Ink smudging with offsetting of text. Overall, in very good plus condition.

7.) Secretary of State William H. Seward (1801-1872) Letter Signed, "William H. Seward", 1p, on Department of State letterhead, 7.875" x 9.875", Washington, January 11, 1865, to Lt. Governor of Illinois, Francis A. Hoffmann. Expected mailing folds and creases. Minor scattered foxing. Some ink smudging. Overall, in very good plus condition.

Unless otherwise indicated, we do our own in-house worldwide shipping!

Applicable shipping and handling charges will be added to the invoice. We offer several shipping options, and remain one of the few auction houses who proudly provides professional in-house shipping as an option to our clients. All items will ship with signature required, and full insurance. Most items are sent via Federal Express, with P. O. Box addresses being sent through USPS. We insure through Berkley Asset Protection with rates of $.70 per $100 of value, among the lowest insurance rates in the industry. Our shipping department cameras document every package, both outgoing and incoming, for maximum security. In addition, we compare our shipping and handling rates against those of other auction houses, to ensure that our charges are among the lowest in the trade.

Upon winning your item(s), you will receive an invoice with our in-house shipping and handling fees included. ***We will ship to the address as it appears on your invoice. If any changes to the shipping address need to be made, you must inform us immediately.***

International shipments: In order to comply with our insurance provider, all international shipments will be sent via Fed Ex and customs paperwork will show a value of $1.00. International buyers should contact our office directly with any questions regarding this policy.

Third Party Shipping Option: If a third party shipper is preferred, the buyer is responsible for contacting them directly to make shipping arrangements. For your convenience, we have provided some recommended shippers. For your protection, we will require a signed release from you, confirming your authorization for us to release your lots to your specified third party. At that point, our responsibility and insurance coverage for your item(s) ceases. Items picked up by third party shippers are required to pay Connecticut sales tax. Items requiring third party shipping due to being oversized, fragile or bulky will be denoted in the item description.
