Ronald Reagan Signed Release Form for The News Syndicate
Partially printed DS
RONALD REAGAN, Printed Document Signed, Release Form for News Syndicate Co., Inc. February 11, 1946, [New York, NY]. 1 p., 5" x 3.25". Witnessed by Felix Greenfield. Light toning; bold signature; very good; with PSA LOA.

Ronald Reagan signed this 1946 release form for the News Syndicate Co., Inc., which published the New York Daily News, founded in 1919. The release authorized them to use pictures of him.

Founded in 1919 by Joseph Medill Patterson, the grandson of Chicago Tribune founder Joseph Medill, the Daily News was not immediately successful. New York subway commuters found its tabloid format easier to handle, and circulation grew to more than a million by 1925. At its peak in 1947, the Daily News reached a daily circulation of 2.4 million and 4.7 million on Sunday. It emphasized large and prominent photographs, so this release was mutually beneficial for the Daily News and actor Ronald Reagan, working to rebuild his acting career after World War II. Reagan was featured in no films in 1946 but in the following year, Reagan starred in lead roles in three films—Stallion Road, That Hagen Girl (with Shirley Temple), and The Voice of the Turtle—all for Warner Brothers.
