Rare World War II Relics of the Dunkirk Beaches
Archive
An intriguing group of over 25 "dug" military relics collected on the famed Dunkirk Beaches during World War II and amassed over several years of searching by an avid European collector living in the vicinity. Condition varies by object, with all exhibiting differing levels of wear, exposure to sea and sand, and corrosion from the elements. In need of cleaning, some restoration and of course research to bring this group back to its prime!

This group offers interesting war-date items, which include: a "Bonanza Silver" silver soup spoon with English hallmarks which, though occluded, could certainly be cleaned to learn place of manufacture and silver content; a second soup spoon, with no hallmarks immediately visible; eight belt buckles, both complete and partial; twelve metal buttons, six with military insignia and the others not identified and with one reading "J. Pearson London [?]". Several other war-date metal items round out the collection.

Dunkirk was destined to become a symbolic moment of both unity and perseverance for England in their battle against the Germans just a month after Churchill's rise to his position as Prime Minister. It would be this town, this battle, and the incredible evacuation campaign which would go down in history as perhaps not only the turning point in the war, but also one of Churchill's and England's finest hours. As British civilians rushed in to save the trapped military personnel, Churchill brought a war-weary and brutalized country out of despair with one of his finest speeches: "We shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be; we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender…What General Weygand called the Battle of France is over. I expect that the Battle of Britain is about to begin…".

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
