Description:

John F. Kennedy
Washington, D.C., Novermber 25, 1952
Kennedy Thanks a Fan for His Election as Senator...With a Similar Letter from Taft!
TLS
This lot comprises two Presidents who are united in expressing appreciation to their constituents for congratulations upon their respective political victories! It features:

A typed letter signed of John F. Kennedy on his Congressional letterhead, one page, 6" x 8" (sight), Washington, D.C., November 25, 1952, nicely signed. Set into a cream mat to overall dimensions of 10" x 12.5", and ready for framing. In very good condition, not examined out of mat.

Kennedy writes to "Arnold," in part: "…I am looking forward eagerly to my service in the United States Senate, and I hope that my actions in the next six years will reward those who have placed their trust in me.

WITH: a typed letter signed of William H. Taft, one page, 5.5" x 8.5", Washington, D.C., December 10, 1908. On his personal Cincinnati letterhead to American lawyer Charles Henry Butler. Loosely affixed to a cardboard sheet and bearing light soiling to edges; overall very good.

Shortly after his election to the Presidency, Taft thanks Butler for his "…telegram of congratulations, received at the time of the election…".

The 1952 race for the Senate pitted the young Kennedy of a prominent Democratic family against Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. of the prominent Republican political family. In the hotly contested election, Kennedy edged out Lodge by just 70,000 votes and three percentage points.

Unlike Kennedy's narrow victory, Taft would win 51.6% of the popular vote against the Democrat William Jennings Bryan, giving the Republicans their fourth consecutive victory.
