[Soviet Union.] PSA/DNA certified and graded MINT 9. Annotated in Russian by an unknown hand in a vertical orientation along the right edge. Expected wear including wrinkles affecting the right edge. A few smudges and stains nowhere near Castro's signature. Else near fine. The actual size of the menu is 7.125" x 4.125." The slab measures 10.125" x 6.625."

Cuban premier Fidel Castro visited the Soviet Union in December 1972 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1922 creation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Besides Castro, other prominent Communist political leaders who attended Soviet festivities as delegates included Romanian President Nicolae Ceau?escu and Madame Nguyen Thi Binh, foreign minister of the Viet Cong. Although Castro had visited the Soviet Union several times before, his December 1972 trip marked the first time visiting after having cemented official Cuban-Soviet economic relations. Castro's visit to the Soviet Union six months before, in July 1972, enabled him to secure Cuba's admission into Comecon, or the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance, an economic pact arranged between Communist countries. Castro used the occasion of speaking before Soviet premier Leonid Brezhnev and other politicians at anniversary events to decry the United States's increased military involvement in North Vietnam.
