Apollo 15 and 16 Missions Original NASA Photos
Photograph
A group of six NASA photographs depicting scenes from the Apollo 15 and Apollo 16 missions, each 10" x 8" color, with fantastic close-ups of the crew's exploration of the moon during theses historic endeavors. Three photos are from Apollo 15, and show the lunar surface, landing point, while the other three exhibit scenes from geological explorations. Each in very fine condition.

Apollo 15 (July 26 to August 7, 1971) was the ninth crewed mission and fourth to land on the moon. There, -- and unlike its predecessors -- its object was a more sustained scientific inquiry in which lunar surface exploration was expanded by the use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle. It included the collection of "Genesis" moon rock and deep core samples, the exploration of the Imbrium Basin and volcanic domes of the Marius Hills, and the deployment of a small subsatellite. It was also notable for including the first space walk in deep space by astronaut Al Worden who executed a 39-minute mission to collect the film cassettes from mapping cameras.

Apollo 16 (April 16 to April 27, 1972) was the tenth crewed mission to the moon. Like Apollo 15, it included an extended stay on the lunar surface with a focus on scientific inquiry, more sustained use of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, collection of further samples and exploration of the Descartes Highlands.
