Apollo 13 Circumnavigation Map Signed and Annotated by Fred Haise
Signed art
An Apollo 13 circumnavigational map annotated and signed by Fred Haise. Measuring 20.25" x 9.25", n.p., n.d. Entitled "Apollo 13 Orbital Mission Map." The map has been signed "A Pictorial of Our History Making Survival - Supported by Many! Fred Haise Apollo 13 LMP" and annotated along numerous points on the map in his hand. For example, Haise points out the "TLI Burn To Achieve Escape Velocity" and the "Speed Up Burn to Save 10 Hours & Put Splashdown in the Pacific Ocean." Near Fine with a bold signature.

Fred W. Haise served as the Lunar Module Pilot of the ill-fated Apollo 13 space mission. The 3-person crew was comprised of Haise, Commander Jim A. Lovell, Jr. (born 1928), and Command Module Pilot Jack L. Swigert, Jr. (1931-1982). Apollo 13 was meant to make the third-ever moon landing during its mid-April 1970 space flight, but the mission was aborted after an oxygen tank in the spacecraft's service module exploded, forcing the crew to transfer to the lunar module, which acted as a lifeboat. The crew built ersatz equipment using existing materials to perform essential functions, like carbon dioxide filtering, and severely rationed supplies. Through a mix of ingenuity and outstanding communication between ground support and the three men, the astronauts safely return to Earth on April 17th.
