The Pay-Table handled the military finances for the colony of Connecticut during the American Revolution. Also known as the Committee of Four, its members at different times included Oliver Ellsworth, Jedidiah Huntington, William Moseley, Hezekiah Rogers, Jesse Root, Thomas Seymour III, William Pitkin, Fenn Wadsworth, Eleazer Wales, Ezekiel Williams, John Chenward, Oliver Wolcott Jr., and Samuel Wyllys.

Jonathan Pettibone (1709-1776) was a farmer born in Simsbury, Connecticut. He was commissioned as colonel of the 18th Connecticut Regiment of Militia which was called to serve in 1776. A justice of the peace for sixteen years, Pettibone represented the town of Simsbury in the general assembly for fourteen sessions.

Lemuel Roberts (1752-1810) was a soldier and historian of the American Revolution. In April 1775, he marched to Lexington as soon as the Revolution began. In June 1775, Roberts marched to Chelsea with the 18th Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment and participated in the Siege of Boston until discharged. In 1809, Roberts published his memoirs, providing details of his experiences from 1751 to 1778. It is one of the few firsthand accounts of soldiers of the Revolutionary War.

John Lawrence (1719-1802) was treasurer of the Colony, and later the State of Connecticut, from 1769 through 1789. During the Revolutionary War, he was commissioner of loans for the new nation.
